Frequently Asked Questions

We've compiled answers to the most common questions guests ask before and during their stay at Sekala Private Game Lodge. This information will help you prepare for your safari adventure and make the most of your time with us.

General Lodge Questions

What type of power/electrical outlets are used at the lodge?

South African 3-pin round plugs (Type M) are used throughout the lodge, with 220-240V power supply. Universal adapters are available at the lodge, but we recommend bringing your own if possible.

Is there Wi-Fi available?

Yes, satellite Wi-Fi is available throughout the main lodge areas and in all guest suites. While not high-speed, the connection is still reasonably quick for basic needs. Due to our remote location, occasional interruptions can occur.

Are there laundry facilities?

Yes, we offer same-day laundry service (weather permitting) at an additional charge. A laundry list and bag are provided in each suite.

Is Sekala suitable for guests with mobility issues?

Unfortunately, the lodge is not wheelchair friendly. All our chalets have a few stairs and are not wheelchair accessible. Due to the nature of the bush environment and the lodge design, we have limitations for guests with mobility challenges. Please contact us at info@sekala.com to discuss your specific requirements before booking.

Safari Experience Questions

What animals will we see?

Welgevonden is home to the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo) and over 50 other mammal species. While we cannot guarantee specific sightings, our experienced rangers maximize your chances of memorable wildlife encounters. For a complete list of birds and mammals found in the reserve, please refer to our website.

How many game drives are included daily?

Two game drives per day are included – an early morning drive departing at 6:00 AM and an afternoon drive departing at 4:00 PM. Each drive lasts approximately 3 hours. The transfer from the main gate to the lodge upon arrival serves as an additional game drive experience (separate from your scheduled morning and evening game drives).

Can children join game drives?

Children 5 years and older can join regular game drives. For younger children, we offer special 1-hour drives after breakfast. If booking the entire lodge exclusively, children of all ages can join game drives.

What happens if it rains?

Game drives proceed in light rain with ponchos provided. In case of severe weather, your ranger may adjust drive timing or duration for safety. Many animals remain active during rain, sometimes offering unique viewing opportunities.
