Our Commitment to Cleanliness
We take standards for hygiene and cleanliness very seriously and are taking steps to ensure the safety of our guests and employees. We, as Sekala Private Game Lodge, have been closely monitoring the World Health Organization and the South African Health Department on directives regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). On a daily basis, our lodge is working to ensure we meet the latest guidance on hygiene and cleaning. Our lodge’s health and safety measures are designed to address a broad spectrum of viruses, including Covid-19, and include everything from hand washing hygiene and cleaning product specifications to guest room and public space cleaning procedures.
Specific steps Sekala Private Game Lodge is taking includes the following:
Hand Hygiene: Proper and frequent hand washing is vital to help combat the spread of viruses. In our daily meetings, our teams are reminded that cleanliness starts with this simple act. It’s important for their health and that of our guests.
On-going Training: In addition to training on housekeeping and hygiene protocols, Our Company is also completing enhanced Covid-19 awareness training.
Updates: We are committed to keeping all our customers inform at all times through our website and direct contact. Our office is on 24/7 standby if you need any additional information during this period
Cleaning Products and Protocols: We procure and use virus-killing products advised by the South African National Government as well as the protective equipment needed for everyday operations.
Guest Rooms: We use cleaning and disinfecting protocols to clean rooms after guests depart and before the next guest arrives, with particular attention paid to high-touch items.
Public Spaces: We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in public spaces, with a focus on the counter at the front desk, door handles, public bathrooms, game vehicle and even room keys. All public spaces are attended to every two to four hours and hourly for high-frequency public spaces, restrooms, and the front desk.
Back of House: In the spaces where staff works “behind the scenes,” we have increased the frequency of cleaning and focusing on high-touch areas like staff entrances, locker room, laundry rooms, staff offices and staff accommodation.
Event Notification: If we are alerted to a case of Covid-19, we immediately work with the relevant health authorities to obtain the facts and guidance on steps to take with both guests and staff. We undertake an additional cleaning and disinfecting protocol of the common areas of the hotel as well as the areas we know the guest has been during their stay. In addition, the lodge seals the guest’s room (e.g., preventing entry by staff or others) and undertakes a room recovery protocol that is designed to disinfect everything in the room including sanitizing the air.

We celebrated our 40th Ruby wedding anniversary at Sekala Private Game Lodge and what a celebration it was. The lodge is magnificent and so beautifully furnished. The deck overlooking a watering hole is a safe haven for animals to come and drink and we had so many sightings of different animals including a herd of buffalo.
Best of all are the staff at Sekala. Clare, Manager Patrick and his team consisting of Abel, Eva and Francina couldn’t do enough for us. The team went out of their way to organise a surprise picnic lunch in the bush and a champagne dinner in the boma on the day of our anniversary. The food and service were first class throughout our stay.
As for the game drives, Patrick with his eagle eyes is an expert ranger and tracker and is passionate about his job. Although the leopard eluded us, we saw 4 of the Big 5 and had wonderful sightings of cheetah. The Welgevonden Game Reserve is very diverse and it was so enjoyable taking in all the different scenery and stopping to enjoy a break at “Patrick’s Coffee Shop” in the mornings and “Patrick’s Bush Bar” in the evenings.

We spent two nights at the Sekala Private Game Lodge at Welgevonden Game Reserve in South Africa and recovered wonderfully. The lodge is spacious and extremely comfortable, the beds are lovely and the food of cook Francina is very good. The 5 staff of the lodge cares for their guests in a very personal and harmonious way and read every wish from their eyes.
The game drives with Ranger Patrick are exciting and varied; you will encounter a variety of animals and landscapes in the Welgevonden Game Reserve. Unfortunately, we just missed the lions! For this we were allowed a Gepardin with their young at the crack, many rhino and zebra we could observe and an elephant, as well as jackals, warthogs, Klipspringer and Pferdeantilopen.
One of the highlights of our stay was a dinner under the stars in the boma around the campfire. There is also a pool and a water hole right by the lodge. The lodge is fenced, so you can move here quite relaxed. Many thanks to Patrick, Eva, Frans, Frank and Francina for the excellent service!
