TRAVEL INFORMATION: COVID 19 UPDATE
Like the whole country, we are closely monitoring new developments regarding the coronavirus. Our policies and procedures follow recommendations from the World Health Organisation and the South African Health Department. Sekala Private Game lodge has been closed temporarily since the 26 March 2020, as part of the continuing nationwide effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). We will continue to evaluate the situation and our website will be updated regularly and follow us on social media for any new communications. We thank our employees and business partners for their willingness and understanding in such a challenging time. We know this is likely a disappointment and we are sorry for this disruption in your travel plans. Please know we are thinking of you and we thank you for your understanding during this unprecedented time. Thank you for all your support.

OUR CANCELLATION POLICY
With safety being our top priority, we have adjusted our cancellation policies to help you feel comfortable with any upcoming travel you have planned or are planning for. We are committed to offering you flexible booking options and are making adjustments to our booking cancellation policies to give you extra peace of mind and security:

Existing reservations - All remaining reservations, even those deemed "non-cancellable" that are scheduled for arrival before 30 November 2020 can be cancelled or changed at no charge up to 48 hours prior to your arrival.

New Reservations - Any reservation booked for dates up until the 30 November 2020 will have a flexible policy, can be cancelled or changed at no charge up to 48 hours prior to your arrival. If you made your booking with an online travel agency you will need to contact them directly to change but we are honoring the cancel policy above for these reservations as well.

Important Information:

  • If you made your reservations directly with us on our website or via phone, your cancelled reservations will be refunded
  • If you booked with an online travel agent such as Expedia, Booking.com, etc., you will have to contact that website for a refund

OUR COMMITMENT TO CLEANLINESS
We take standards for hygiene and cleanliness very seriously and are taking steps to ensure the safety of our guests and employees. We, as Sekala Private game lodge, have been closely monitoring the World Health Organization and the South African Health Department on directives regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). On a daily basis, our lodge is working to ensure we meet the latest guidance on hygiene and cleaning. Our lodge's health and safety measures are designed to address a broad spectrum of viruses, including COVID-19, and include everything from hand washing hygiene and cleaning product specifications to guest room and public space cleaning procedures. Specific steps Sekala Private Game Lodge is taking include:

Guest and Employee Safety:

  • Hand Hygiene: Proper and frequent handwashing is vital to help combat the spread of viruses. In our daily meetings, our teams are reminded that cleanliness starts with this simple act. It's important for their health and that of our guests.
  • Ongoing Training: In addition to training on housekeeping and hygiene protocols, Our company are also completing enhanced COVID-19 awareness training.
  • Updates: We are committed to keeping all our customers inform at all times through our website and direct contact. Our office is on 24/7 standby if you need any additional information during this period
  • Cleaning Products and Protocols: We procure and use virus-killing products advised by the South African National Government as well as the protective equipment needed for everyday operations.
  • Guest Rooms: We use cleaning and disinfecting protocols to clean rooms after guests depart and before the next guest arrives, with particular attention paid to high-touch items.
  • Public Spaces: We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in public spaces, with a focus on the counter at the front desk, door handles, public bathrooms, game vehicle and even room keys. All public spaces are attended to every two to four hours and hourly for high-frequency public spaces, restrooms, and the front desk.
  • Back of House: In the spaces where staff work "behind the scenes," we have increased the frequency of cleaning and focusing on high-touch areas like staff entrances, locker room, laundry rooms, staff offices and staff accommodation.

Event Notification: If we are alerted to a case of COVID-19, we immediately work with the relevant health authorities to obtain the facts and guidance on steps to take with both guests and staff. We undertake an additional cleaning and disinfecting protocol of the common areas of the hotel as well as the areas we know the guest has been during their stay. In addition, the lodge seals the guest's room (e.g., preventing entry by staff or others) and undertakes a room recovery protocol that is designed to disinfect everything in the room including sanitizing the air.

The Guest Journey  

  • Visitors will be asked to use hand sanitizer and to wear a mask. Appropriate signage will also be prominently displayed outlining proper mask usage and current physical distancing practices in use throughout the lodge.  
  • Employees will not open the doors of game vehicles, cars or taxis.  Guests requesting baggage service, staff will ensure that they sanitize before and after, as while as the luggage, door handles ect  
  • Game vehicle will be sanitized before and after every trip. All guest will be required to sanitize and have on a mask before getting on the game vehicle.
  • Only one guest or guests staying together will be allowed to gather together outside of their room.
  • Door handles in main lodge will be sanitized hourly.
  • All guests need to follow the protocols of the reserve, Welgevonden Game Reserve 

 

Game Viewing Operations  
Cleaning & Sanitizing Protocol. Game viewer will be cleaned and sanitized after and before every trip. All passengers must wear a mask at all times. Encourage guest to sanitize regularly and have other items on hand to combat the virus. Adhere to rules of the reserve at all times and practices social distancing when have a ‘Pit Stop’. ¬†Seating in the game viewer will be adjusted to comply with social distancing.
Food and Beverage Protocols
Sekala Private Game Lodge, once the restrictions have been lifted, will operate it’s bar and restaurant spaces in accordance National guidelines. Cleaning and sanitation protocols will be scheduled, monitored and logged on a per shift and daily basis by our management team. This will include all surfaces, stations, carts, trays, dining tables and stools, our food preparation stations and kitchens. Single use and disposable condiments, napkins, silverware and menus will be used at this time. We will install distancing guards at service counters as applicable and monitor social distancing guidelines as they pertain to the limit of number of bar stools, seats, and pool beds in use at any one time as well as managing guest queuing.

Our minibars will be locked, all loose product removed, and service temporarily suspended. Items will be available upon request via our In-Room Dining team.

Limited contact service will be deployed in our Lodge. Certain requests will be received in advance to avoid contact
